It can be wonderful to have a select few people along with your hired help at your birth. It is such an intimate moment in time, and too many distractions or possible stressors could actually prolong the progress of birth. If you feel obligated to have someone there, but are not really sure you want them present, then they are not an essential part of your birth team. You can tell them that they will play an essential part of your postpartum support team and remind them how grateful you are that they want to be a part of this process.
These 4 people can be the perfect combination to ensure you feel most supported during birth:
Primary care giver - such as your OBGYN or midwife.
Partner - such as your husband, wife, supportive figure.
Friend, sister, cousin. Someone you believe naturally keeps you calm with their presence. It's nice to have an extra set of hands too, especially if you’d like the day to be filmed or photographed.
